ASI 2020 Vision

The ASI 2020 Vision Launched at ESIC 2014 – The Vision included for ICE-ASI: A global commitment to fidelity, equity, and impact.

Ayres Sensory Integration has always been about translating sound science into meaningful change in people’s everyday lives. The ASI 2020 Vision was a global commitment to do this at scale: strengthening scholarship, assessment, and education to make high-quality ASI practice accessible worldwide. It honoured Dr A. Jean Ayres’ legacy while setting a clear direction for the future.

A standout achievement of the Vision was the development of the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI). Teams across continents contributed to international normative data collection, so practitioners would have a valid, modern assessment grounded in global samples and shared ethics. This was co-produced by a remarkable community of clinicians and researchers who gave their time and expertise.

Alongside assessment, education quality and fidelity were prioritised. ICE-ASI set out standards that protect the integrity of Ayres’ work and support competency-based training, with accredited programmes now taught internationally and a refreshed framework due for publication following Council approval. This helps ensure therapists learn the neuroscience, theory, and practice skills needed to deliver ASI well. please see ice-asi.org for more details

The Vision also invested in knowledge for practice. ICE-ASI’s research database makes finding and using contemporary evidence relevant to ASI easier, supporting critical thinking and outcome-focused care.

In 2022, the International Sensory Integration Congress marked the culmination of the ASI 2020 Vision, celebrating how far the community had come and renewing energy for the next chapter. The message was clear: when we connect across borders and work with fidelity and compassion, people benefit.

Where next?

Keep collaborating across services, universities, and communities; keep building shared tools and standards; keep measuring what matters to people. You are part of this story if you are training, supervising, researching, or delivering services.

Let’s continue to co-produce resources and pathways that are equitable, culturally responsive, and truly person-led.
